Half-shaft joint replacement

The problem

Classic situation: an ignored broken axle joint boot allowed dust to enter the constant velocity joint. This was my quick patch while waiting for the replacement to arrive

The Fiat Ducato 280 has the half-shaft and the joint separable, joined by the half-shaft splines

Replacement done!

Suggestions for this job

• Fiat Ducato, and vans generally, have a pretty high elevation from the ground: spend some money and get a jack suitable for your vehicle.
• The wheel hub nut is a 32mm, you absolutely need a mechanic’s pneumatic impact wrench to remove it. There’s no way you can do it with a normal wrench without stripping the screw thread
